A.T. Kearney supported the German
Sustainability Award, the leading European
award for Sustainability, with over 6,000
companies, cities, startups and research projects participating in the various categories
over the past 10 years.
A.T. Kearney is a founding member and
methodology partner since its foundation in
2008 and was heavily involved in designing
and updating the evaluation methodology
and competition process since its inception.
The firm supported the award in three ways,
says Otto Schulz, Partner, Global Leader of
the Chemicals Practice and board member
for the German Sustainability Award.
“We designed a framework to assess
sustainability achievements of companies,
helped to align the framework in the complex stakeholder environments of industry,
government and NGOs and are ever since
the methodology and assessment partner in
the annual award process,” Schultz says.
As a result, The German Sustainability
Award is being awarded for the 10th time in
2017, when Federal President Frank-Walter
Steinmeier will act as patron for the award.
Broad anchorage into the society is proven by honorary DNP price recipients including: Ban Ki-Moon, António Guterres,
Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Horst Köhler, Annie Lennox, Prince Charles, Achim Steiner,
Queen Silvia of Sweden, Lord Norman Foster, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Volker Hauff,
Jamie Oliver, among others.
“With our support for the German Sus-
tainability Award, we can give back some of
our experience and help building a self-pro-
pelling movement in one of the key indus-
trial economies of the world,” Schulz says.
“We are very proud to see how this award
has gained relevance in Germany and abroad
with more than 5,000 companies participat-
ing over the years.”
Meanwhile, Schulz says A.T. Kearney’s
consultants are energized by the opportunity
to have such an impact. “Support of the Ger-
man Sustainability Award is in high demand
across our unit and so are social impact &
sustainability projects,” he says. “Driver cer-
tainly is not only the option to participate in
the flagship gala with a 1,000-plus guest and
international stars performing.”
As far as winning a Social & Community
Investment award, Schulz says that from
its beginnings, A.T. Kearney has worked to
make a positive social impact through its cli-
ent engagements and Pro Bono projects.
“Essential rightness has always been our
cultural anchor—we’re proud to be able to
do the right thing for the societies in which
we live,” Schulz says. “ We are proud that
our efforts are also recognized globally and
view this as a motivation to continue and increase our efforts.”
A.T. Kearney designed an evaluation methodology that combines the flexibility for companies to showcase their strengths and innovative approaches and offers enough structure to make their efforts and achievements comparable.
Q&A: How does the work align with
A.T. Kearney’s overall mission?
Schulz: “Sustainability for us is an
integral part of our Essential Rightness
understanding in consulting. Insights
generated and mind-set developed
certainly help us to become even better
consultants who can give even more
sound advice to our clients.”
