the pace of change, I do think the energy around the
pace of change gives us tremendous opportunity. I’m
very bullish on what this survey means for our collective business and our ability to help influence the next
chapter of what our clients are going to go through.
Consulting: Let’s talk about talent and what the report
refers to a “brain drain.” It’s a huge issue. What, if
anything, can be done about it?
Foutty: I think it’s really interesting that technology and innovation sit as the top two reasons leaders
are concerned around brain drain. We’ve also seen
personal connection and mission rising to the top of
what’s important when it comes to talent in an organization. Personal connection in terms of feeling a
sense of connectivity both the organization and then
the overall mission of the organization, and each individual’s role in fulfilling that mission, is a big key.
Consulting: I found it surprising that leaders understand
they need to act to transform their business, they just
aren’t sure that they’ll be able to do it.
Foutty: I think we are at an inflection point and the survey
highlights that inflection point. I’m confident because, at
the end of the day, I understand how resilient businesses
are, and I think communication in the corner offices sits
at the heart of this. I think about the role we play in terms
of building that confidence and facilitating that conversation, it’s going to be critical to bridging that gap. There
is such positive momentum and recognition of the challenges and opportunities. I’m an optimist, so I take great
confidence from the momentum in the marketplace.
Consulting: Deloitte is coming off a fantastic year.
When you look at this survey, what does it say to you
about the future and Deloitte’s overall outlook?
Foutty: I have great optimism and what this survey tells
us, along with what I’m hearing from our clients, is there
is an understanding that technology’s disruption is going
to drive significant business model shifts. As a result, I
think it will create great opportunities for us, but more
importantly, for our clients and the marketplace overall.
