Pivot Point Consulting provides implementation, staff augmentation and
advisory services in healthcare information technology. Established in
2008, the firm has earned a number of
industry and workplace quality awards,
and now can add Consulting’s Fastest
Growing Firms to the trophy shelf. The
firm posted an extraordinary growth
rate of 800 percent between 2011 and
2014, good enough for the No. 4 spot
in this year’s rankings. Rachel Halonen
Marano, Partner and Co-fonder of Pivot Point Consulting sat down with
Consulting magazine to discuss the firm, its
growth and performance, as well as
where it goes from here.
Consulting: What were the
main factors that contributed
to your exceptional growth?
Marano: Business growth is a direct
result of successful interactions. This
is true for any business, and it is especially true for healthcare IT consulting.
When David Scott and I co-founded
Pivot Point Consulting, our vision was
to create a company that treats clients
as partners for solution-driven results.
We vowed to always work with integrity—and do right by those we work
with. Hiring the right consultants
with specific and exceptional experience is key. In doing that, we see creative solutions develop in remarkable
ways that always stand out.
Consulting: How is 2015
shaping up for your firm?
Marano: 2015 is shaping up as a
year of solid, paced progress for Pivot
Point Consulting. As a KLAS-ranked
national healthcare IT consulting
firm, our largest areas of expansion
are directly tied to the feedback we
hear from our client partners. Providing more consulting services to our
existing healthcare customers is a testament to the power of long-term relationships. Specifically, we see more
business opportunities on the advisory side. In addition, new implementations, legacy support and analytic
projects are resulting in a strong year.
Consulting: What’s your firm’s
outlook for 2016? Where are
Marano: Pivot Point Consulting has
a positive outlook for 2016. Hospitals and health systems today are
struggling to manage and analyze all
the healthcare data they’ve amassed
through electronic systems. Vastly
more healthcare organizations have
reached Meaningful Use stages 1
and 2 with their electronic health
records. Naturally, they want their
information to become more predic-tive, qualitative and quantitative, and
to deliver return on that investment.
Consulting: What do you see as
the biggest challenges in 2016?
Marano: The healthcare IT consult-
ing market that was once dominated
by large, full-service firms is con-
tinuing its expansion by leveraging
the talents of many high-performing
boutique practices. Specialized firms
like Pivot Point offer specific, stra-
tegic solutions pinpointed to address
healthcare’s greatest IT hurdles. The
only challenge is to continue main-
taining our high standards for talent
and quality as we grow.
Consulting: What does being
named one of Consulting’s
Fastest Growing Firms mean
to your firm, your employees
and your clients?
Marano: The recognition is certainly rewarding to the team. It
makes a difference when we approach the market and seek to recruit top talent in healthcare IT
consulting. This award also makes
it easier to represent the value potential for prospective customers.
Clients are very pleased to see industry and marketplace validation
for their experiences with our firm.
