A LITTLE BAIN NEWS OF OUR OWN
You’ve no doubt heard the word “Bain” men- tioned publicly more times in the last few months than you ever have before; and nine
times out of ten the implications haven’t been positive. Almost all of those references, of course,
focus on Bain Capital and Mitt Romney’s time at
the helm more than a decade ago. For its part,
Bain & Company has been trying to set the Romney record straight and even went so far as to
issue a press release detailing the dramatic differences between
Bain Capital and Bain & Company. Of course, any distinction
gets lost on the public when one single word—Bain—gets
thrown around in the public discourse.
Many newspapers, newsweeklies,
online publications, blogs and cable
news networks have dedicated large
chunks of coverage to “Bain” and its
implications for November. This month,
it’s Consulting’s turn. We also have a little Bain news to report, and we’re going
back a number of years, too. But it’s for
entirely different reasons.
Our look back, however, is to celebrate a consulting firm’s truly remarkable accomplishment— 10 consecutive
years as the No. 1 ranked firm in our
annual Best Firms to Work For Survey.
Think about where we were in 2003.
Then think about everything that’s changed in the world since
that time. Plenty has changed with Bain, as well. For instance,
in that time, the number of employees has more than doubled—
from 2,650 to 5,550; offices have increased from 29 to 49 (
including the three the firm announced this year); and revenue
has increased more than 165 percent in the last 10 years.
One thing hasn’t changed. Bain’s been the Best Firm to Work
For every year since 2003. In good economies and bad, the firm
has been held to its “True North” positioning through three different firm leaders—John Donahoe, Steve Ellis, and now Bob
Bechek—preaching the same principles and beliefs. Their message has been consistent; the execution, flawless; and the results
have been simply staggering.
Over the last ten
years, the number of
Bain employees more
2,650 to 5,550; office
locations grew from
29 to 49 and revenue
increased some 165
percent. One thing
that hasn’t changed:
Bain’s been the top-ranked firm every
single year since 2003.
