Hidden Gems of the Consulting Profession
Every year, the stories of the Seven Small Jewels are inspiring. These lean and mean firms defy the
odds and slay the Goliaths of the profession with fewer resources, fewer clients, fewer consultants
and far fewer dollars on their balance sheets. But this year, they are even more impressive. In a year
that chewed up and spit out some of the best the profession has to offer, these seven David’s managed to not only to survive, but thrive. All of our winners added staff and upped their revenue in 2009.
How many firms can say that? Some significantly grew their business last year, assuming, of course,
you consider 100 percent growth significant. We sure do. One plans to grow revenue more than 200
percent this year. How are they doing it? Well, by launching new practices, hiring amazing
talent, retaining their best, tapping social networks and holding firm on fees, just to name a few
ways. Sounds like the big boys could learn a thing or two from this year’s Seven Small Jewels.
